The Story Behind the Picture

Does this image seem familiar to you? It's along the Bregagh Road in Northern Ireland. You may know it as Dark Hedges or King's Road in a key scene in Game of Thrones. This is where Arya Stark escaped from King’s Landing, disguised as a boy. The two rows of beech trees were planted in the 18th century by James Stuart to line the entrance to his home - Gracehill House. It's now one of the most visited sites in Northern Ireland.

We were holiday in the area and I'd heard of the Game of Thrones phenomena and wanted to see what all the hype was about. At that point in time, you could still walk along the road with only the occasional tourist or tour bus obscuring the view. Since then, the site is more controlled. However, I was able to take a few snaps of the avenue. It was strangely atmospheric and etherical. No wonder they chose it for a film location.

Colour Palette

Grey / Green / Brown

The colour palette, with hex and RGB codes, has been provided for reference. This has also been matched to the nearest tones in a few of my favourite yarns: Stylecraft Special DK, Paintbox DK, Caron Simply Soft and Red Heart Super Saver.

Please note that the yarn colours shown are an approximation of the true shades. It is impossible to find the specific colour codes for yarn, as it tends to be a subtle mix of colour. The suggested colour palettes, therefore, use the picture for inspiration and are just for fun. They may just give you some ideas on colour combinations, but please go to your local yarn shop and check out the true colours before purchasing. As with all technical things, the colours may vary according to your screen settings.
