Developing a Toadstool

I thought you might like to see how the Toadstool Pin Cushion developed. Hopefully you will have seen the final version (far right) on my Etsy site?

It started one morning, when I decided I needed a new pin cushion. I dragged out some felt and cut shapes and sewed stuff on in a rather haphazard fashion, but with a basic design in mind. I was so pleased with the first version, everyone in the family had t have a good look at it.

Having lived with it for a couple of days, I realised it looked more like a large lollipop! So I set about trying to get the top flatter and wider. A bit more cutting and sewing and I got something a bit more like the vision in my head - but still not perfect. Then it struck me ... a piece of circular card would stop the top from blooming out underneath. It also had the added bonus that I wouldn't lose needles in the toadstool top!

With a bit more experimentation I managed to get the gills underneath and a decent sized toadstool cap. Success! My final version, complete with a-symmetric stalk designed to make it easier to hold, was wrapped up as a Christmas present for my sister. I hope you like the final version?!
